ipod sad face icon - disaster recovered

I was distraught. My ipod started showing the sad face icon. It was paralysed, and so was I. All the little blighter could do was whirr and attempt to boot up. Neither Windows nor iTunes would recognise it.

A quick review of Apple's website showed that it was basically knackered. Ahhhhhh.

As a last resort I Googled 'ipod sad icon' and clicked on the best looking result. There a fellow tortured soul talked me through their similarly harrowing experience with the sad face icon and how they had miraculously solved it by hitting it (hard).

I was at my wits end. I was pretty nervous, I can tell you. But I went ahead and thumped it against the table and...

Bravo - back in action.

Pete from Pixelicious you are my saviour!

It's worth noting that if you hear a noticeable clicking sound, the problem is likely one of two things; a faulty hard drive or corrosion developing on the HDD cable. If it's the latter, be sure to clean periodically.
